Spirit of Britain reconstruct the past, specialising in the period between 1900 and 1950. We aim to portray the life, during peace and war, of British citizens in a variety of roles, from delivery drivers in a local town to soldiers on active service in foreign lands. Our interests are split into a variety of scenarios which can be accessed via the links. We can be WW1 ‘Tommies’, ARP wardens, civilian workers, businessmen, shopkeepers, medical staff, RAF flight and ground crew, between wars servicemen (both home and abroad), and a wide variety of WW2 soldiers in all theatres of combat, these include war correspondents, radio operators, drivers, tank crew, infantry officers and other ranks. We are always researching new impressions to add to our portfolio.
Spirit of Britain has a selection of vehicles, including jeeps, motorcycles, cars and lorries to complement any displays we do. All members are attired correctly, down to the last detail, including weapons, equipment and props. Our interest lies in portraying the ordinary man or woman in the street, going about their daily business, and these impressions are always changing and evolving. The Group’s members are enthusiasts who have specific knowledge areas which, when combined, produce the very best living history display. We have been used by a variety of TV and film companies to provide authentic characters, vehicles and environments and we would be pleased to discuss any projects we can help you with.
Members of Spirit of Britain have previously worked on Stephen Poliakoff’s Glorious 39, HBO’s Band of Brothers, Sky History SAS - The Originals, Weaponology and The Lost Evidence series, Channel 4 Walter's War, and Fighting the Red Baron, plus many magazine photo shoots for Armchair General, Skirmish, Military Machines, Classic Military Vehicle, etc. We can supply vehicles, personnel, props, set building and costume for a large number of cast, plus historical advice if required. We even have working period movie cameras!
Our latest project involves the 70th anniversary of the Dunkirk evacuation producing reconstructions for news packages, filming both in the UK and France for BBC News.
