Motorised industry of the BEF keep an eye out for the Luftwaffe, May 1940
The soldiers of the British Expeditionary Force operated in Norway and France in 1939-40. Early war uniform and equipment differs from the later war look and the pre-war mentality to soldiering was still in evidence, and contributed to the problems the British Army faced in the Battle for France. This includes a mixture of pre-war uniforms, similar to that worn in WW1 and early versions of the 37 pattern battledress. Webbing equipment is also employed as a mixture of 08 webbing and 37 pattern. Spirit of Britain has spent several years researching and collecting the correct kit for this impression, including replicating some pieces of equipment to the exact pattern of the original.
